Once you have collected it, get back to firing at the small spaceships, and shoot them all in one go. Try to eliminate all of them before they get too low and start moving too fast. Ironically, the most important point is to be eliminated at the right time to keep your highscore. If you are not eliminated at the right time, you may only get 10% of the score you achieved because the last zero will be eaten away at a certain point.
